Testimonials from parents of service users in High Hurlands Homes:
NURSING HOME PARENT
A new lease of life
After a long stay in hospital with a serious decline in health a new home with nursing care was in desperate need. High Hurlands has exceeded all my hopes. The caring attention shown to clients needs has improved the life of my offspring 100%. The staff are very highly trained and motivated in giving support to their clients to enjoy a full and interesting life. Holidays, trips out every week, day services providing pottery and art as well as cooking, sensory suite and their own hydro pool. Nothing is too much trouble and attention to detail for as much independence as possible is given in a loving, warm, friendly environment. The house is kept clean and tidy and is always very welcoming.
All I can say is a very big thank you to the owners, managers, nursing staff, carers and cleaners for a well run, happy establishment which has had such a huge impact in the 6 months we have been privileged to call High Hurlands "home"
from a very happy and relaxed Mum "Thank you"
PROFESSIONAL TESTIMONIAL:
High Hurlands is an extremely well presented and well organised home both within the main house and bungalows to ensure a secure, safe and happy home environment for the residents. The staff are cheerful, welcoming and are transparent in their communication with visiting professionals. They have been observed, on all visits, to offer the highest standard of care with a very person centered approach towards each resident. This has meant they are responsive and alert to the communications and needs of residents in a very timely manner and importantly that the resident is informed at every stage of contact with another resident/carer/professional of what is happening to or with them in order for more meaningful participation or engagement.
The recordings for each resident's file are detailed in a very personal way to ensure that diversity is acknowledged for each individual and plans/activities are adjusted accordingly as to what works and what does not work for that person. Staff know the residents very well and are often able to intuit need based on this knowledge of the individual. Staff have been observed to offer support, comfort and ensure that choice, maximising wellbeing and independence is a priority at all times. What comes across strongly is that High Hurlands is the resident's home.
I would highly recommend High Hurlands for any person requiring this provision.
RESIDENTIAL HOME PARENT:
I am always excited to be going home to visit my family every three weeks, to stay the night and spend some time with my mum and dad and I especially love it when my nieces and nephews are there, all eight of them. I find it particularly funny when they are naughty and spend a lot of time just watching them. However I am also very pleased to be going back to High Hurlands where my lovely carers always have my lunch ready for when I get there. I am pleased to be back with my two very special friends that I have lived with for many years .I have my own bedroom where I can relax, look at books, my photo albums or just have time out. When I am feeling more sociable I can go into the sitting room and watch television with my friends, help in the kitchen to prepare food and even do a bit of housework. I can do all the things that I do at home and so much more ..... including pub lunches, visiting garden centres, doing a bit of gardening, going for walks, numerous theatre trips, holidays even one holiday in France, boat trips......... I could go on but there wouldn't be enough space here to list them all, suffice it to say I have a wonderful time. My mum and dad think High Hurlands is a wonderful place run by a truly caring family along with very caring staff and if I am happy then my mum and dad brothers and sisters and extended family are all happy too.
Our son moved to High Hurlands Nursing Home in 1994. We were so impressed then at the warm welcome from those that would be caring for him, some of whom are still there after nearly 19 years. They have always shown sensitivity to his needs and more than that, treated him with genuine affection and respect.
Every week he would experience indoor and outdoor activities and therapies designed to enhance his otherwise limited physical and mental capabilities. The hydrotherapy pool is a great facility. Stunning pieces of art and pottery, created by residents with a bit of help from staff, are displayed around the home; a testament to the genuine interest and creative enthusiasm of the staff .
There are regular outings to local pubs, bowling, cinema and places of interest, even the occasional show in town! The location itself is
stunning, and the already excellent accommodation and facilities are maintained in pristine condition.
We could not have imagined a happier and homelike environment for him.
My daughter has been living in High Hurlands since she was 17 years old. She knew the other children from school since she was 4 years old. The Owner and staff are friendly and very helpful. They get in contacted straight away if my daughter has any health problems. And we go with staff to any of her medicals (x-rays etc) hospital appointments. High Hurlands has a very homely feel to it. My daughters been very happy living there.
